Duke of Edinburgh Award Banner

Award candidates

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has been operating at Alcester High School for 10 years. Most entrants start their Bronze Award during Year 9 and many go on to do the Silver Award in Years 10 and 11.

There are 4 sections to the Award:

  • Service
  • Skills
  • Physical Recreation
  • Expedition
At the Bronze level, the first 3 sections take a minimum of 6 months to complete, although you don't have to spend this long on all of them. Students can choose from a huge range of things to do, so they are bound to find something they enjoy.

The Expedition involves a number of training and planning sessions. The actual practice and assessed expeditions involve spending 2 nights under canvas and walking 15 miles carrying tents and equipment. The Cotswolds, Lake District and the Peak District are some of our favourite destinations.

Mrs Foster is our unit leader in school and can be contacted for more information or visit
