Learning Resource Centre Banner

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) occupies a central position within the school,
not only geographically but also in the pivotal way it serves all departments, staff and pupils alike. It is managed by a full time, qualified librarian and an assistant, who are helped by pupil librarians at lunchtime.

It is the policy of the school to have open access to the LRC during school hours. Pupils enjoy this privilege and the facility is in constant use. The room is not timetabled but staff are allowed to book it for specified periods.

The LRC has an extensive stock both fiction and non-fiction. The book stock is supplemented by CDs, DVD's, CD-ROMs, videos and subject information packs. A photocopier is available for pupil use.

Since the school acquired Technology College status, the impact of information technology has transformed the LRC. Pupils have access to ten networked computers, three scanners and two laser printers, one of which is colour. Students are encouraged to explore the attributes of Internet technology to reinforce the fundamentals of information retrieval. The need to select the most suitable research path, whether electronic or hard copy, is emphasised.

Pupils are introduced to information and presentation skills through an ICT assignment in Year 7. These techniques are reinforced and developed in subsequent years at relevant stages of curriculum delivery.

The LRC is frequently cited as a flagship for South Warwickshire. Initiatives such as the delivery of research and presentation skills using ICT make it distinct.
