Structures
|
Music
can be made up from a number of ideas. These act like the bricks of a building.
Some possible
musical structures are :- |
BINARY - music using
this structure has TWO sections labelled A and B. Here is a short piece
made up from 2 sections. What differences are there between the two
sections? (hint: listen to the instruments and what they are playing |
TERNARY - this
has THREE sections - A:B:A. This is rather like a 'musical sandwich' having
two outer sections that are identical. Listen to this TERNARY piece. What
do you notice about the last section? Is it completely identical to the
first? If not why do you think it has been changed? Which instrument is
being used ? |
RONDO -
this adds to TERNARY form like this A:B:A:C:A. Can you see the similarity?
The 'C' section has been added. Listen to a simple RONDO piece. A string
sound is being used. How are the two types of sound made on real instruments?
What are the Italian terms for the two types of playing? Try to make a
graphic representation of this piece (draw it using pictures). |
