ASDAN AWARD SCHEME

The ASDAN Award Scheme is a nationally recognised activity-based course and is offered to students as an option in years 10 & 11. It provides students with the opportunity to build on individual strengths and develop new skills. There are lots of activities (challenges) to choose from:

                        Art                    Drama                Health & Safety

ICT              Mini-enterprise          Sport & Leisure            Work Experience

The computer is used a lot during these lessons and trips are also organised to link in with some of the challenges.

The ASDAN course will lead to the achievement of the Bronze Award and Certificate of Personal Effectiveness; Level 1  is equivalent to a GCSE Grade E-F and Level 2 a GCSE Grade B.

The scheme promotes the development of the following Key Skills:

  • Improving own learning and performance
  • Working with others
  • Problem solving
  • Communication
  • Application of number
  • Information technology

The Wider Key Skills - improving own learning & performance, problem solving and working with others are examined in greater detail for the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness; there is also a requirement at this level to show evidence of giving an oral presentation, taking part in a discussion and doing some research.

There are no exams, to achieve the awards students have to produce a folder of evidence. In order to plan and evaluate their work, Action Plans & Reviews are also completed for some of the challenges.

By the end of Year 10 most students should have enough work in their folders to get the Bronze Award. By the end of Year 11 many students will have achieved their Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate of Personal Effectiveness.
