Curicullum Support Banner

Alcester High School has a strong commitment to supporting students who have a range of special educational needs. It is our aim to help them access the curriculum, achieve success and equality of opportunity.

The SEN Co-ordinator, Mrs. Reading has very good links with all the local schools and external support agencies.

The majority of pupils with special educational needs are identified before transferring to Alcester High School and Mrs. Reading attends Individual Education Plan Reviews and Annual Reviews of pupils in Year 6 whenever possible. This means that learning difficulties are known and can be planned for as soon as possible. The Curriculum Support Department ensures that all staff are made aware of the needs of these students and provide practical advice and support.

Support is given in a variety of ways:

" In-class support from teaching assistants

" Small group work

" Individual tuition

" Individual Education Plans are written to help monitor progress

" Access arrangements for school and external examinations are organised

" Extra help at break, lunchtimes and tutor time with homework and coursework

" I.C.T. - the department has five computers on the school network.

It is the policy of this department to make regular contact with parents to discuss progress on a regular basis. Parents are invited to contribute towards Individual Education Plans and Reviews whenever possible.

The Governing Body now has a governor with specific responsibility for special educational needs.
