Modern Foreign Languages It is the firm belief held by all in the Modern Foreign Languages Department, that the learning of at least one foreign language is a fundamental part of each pupil’s education. It brings long-term enrichment to everyone’s life – not just educationally, but culturally and socially too. We strive therefore to provide fun and stimulating language learning experiences, which afford our pupils the necessary skills to understand and be understood in a wide range of everyday communicative situations. KS3 Currently both French and German are offered throughout Key Stage Three and Four, in complete parity with one another, to all pupils. When pupils enter year 7 they will follow a two week language awareness Programme., All pupils will then be allocated one language initially in which to specialise. French in Key Stage Three is taught using the very latest scheme from Heinemann Publications – Métro . German in Key Stage Three is taught using the Logo Series also from Heinemann Publications, KS4 In years 10 and 11, pupils can study French and German to GCSE level, following the AQA Modular GCSE course.
