Alcester
High School believes that education is not only about intellectual and physical
development of young people but also their spiritual development. Not only should
young people have an understanding of Christianity but they must also have an
appreciation and empathy for the beliefs and practices of others.
Pupils have the opportunity to
explore and reflect on religious ideas and moral issues throughout their time
at the school. An important feature of the RE programme is the schedule of
regular opportunities to visit places of worship, to hear and meet visiting
speakers from religious groups and charities and to see religious art or film
and theatre productions.
The Religious Education syllabus
is based on the new Warwickshire Local Education Authority Syllabus. Of the
six world religions that are studied, Christianity is the primary focus. A
G.C.S.E. short course in Religious Education is now well established in Year
10 and 11.
It is hoped that pupils will continue
to cultivate attitudes of sensitivity to, and appreciation of, different points
of view. This subject should help them to develop tolerance for other people's
ideas, values and customs and should help them to appreciate the importance
of discussion in focusing and developing their own values and beliefs.
Alcester High School regards Religious Education as a continuous process extending
beyond the years of schooling.
